What inspired this? Well I can blame it on
wanting to put smiles on children's' faces but that's only part
of it. When I was younger, I visited a house each year that went
all out for Christmas. This house had 3 separate colors; red,
green, and white. When illuminated separately, it gave a very
unique look that I wanted to duplicate. So searching the
internet I went and I stumbled across PlanetChristmas.com. This
place had all the answers I needed and for 2005 my house went
animated to music.
2006 was one of upgrades. Most of the
budget went to upgrading the roof and upgrading to LED bulbs
which tend to be rather expensive. The roof for 2005 consisted
of 244 lights and for 2006 the roof consist of 720 lights. Due
to the high cost ($1.40 per bulb) of the LED bulbs, I chose to
only upgrade one color at a time. So all of the blue lights on
the roof and ground are LED replacement bulbs.

Plans for next year...
Yes, I already
have plans for next year. 2009 will be the year of wire frames. I
plan on purchasing a welder shortly after my 2008 display is broken down
and I plan on creating wire frames all year. I won't go into detail on my
projects that I am planning (Santa's secret) but there will be
multiple themed displays to put in the yard.
I
also want to incorporate a mega tree into my display. I am not
sure if it will make it into the 2008 display but it will
definitely make a permanent appearance by 2009. By the way, when
I say mega, I mean 30 - 40 foot Mega!
